Richard is a renowned consultant gynaecologist based in Cardiff. He specialises in laparoscopic endometriosis surgery, fibroids, pre-menstrual syndrome, and endometrial ablation surgery. Mr Penketh gained extensive experience before his consultant appointment in 1996 in general gynaecology, infertility and keyhole surgery. Richard has a special interest in unfertility and the psychological aspects of gynaecology, including difficulties with intercourse. 

Mr Penketh is a consultant at The Spire Cardiff Hospital. He frequently attends international meetings where he benchmarks the Cardiff teams’ activity against world leaders’ techniques. Cardiff is recognized as a British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy Endometriosis Centre and has a UK wide appointed senior trainee. Mr Penketh also performs hysterectomies using a technique that avoids any scarring. He is recognized by the AAGL as a tutor for this approach to hysterectomy. Additionally, he has also helped develop an online symptom tracking tool named Time for Medicine, which helps to bring specialist medical diagnoses and treatments to patients at home.
